Now that 2021 has arrived (finally), we are prepared to rollout the remaining vacation rental cleaning costs infographics. In this article, we will focus on the average cleaning costs for a one-bedroom property in the United States. First, we’ll discuss the national average cost. Then, we will look at some of the outliers throughout the country. Finally, we’ll look at the changes in costs throughout the year. Let’s get started!

Q4 Cleaning Costs Infographic

The following infographic was created using a compilation of data from thousands of projects that were completed on the Turno Marketplace. Search for new Airbnb cleaners on the Marketplace, where over 1.2 million projects have been completed. Please note that the infographic is color-coded. The darker green states represent the higher-cost states for Airbnb cleaning. The lighter green color represents the less-expensive states. Refer to the key on the right side of the map for more detailed information.

National Average

As seen on the infographic, the national average cost for cleaning a one-bedroom property is $51.29. This price saw an increase by over five percent from the previous quarter. The other two property types, two and three-bedroom properties, also saw an increase in price from the previous quarter. As a vacation rental cleaning service, this may mean that your rates have increased, or should increase, in order to remain competitive in your market. Though, that is dependent on your local market prices.

Top & Bottom Three

Now that we have an idea of the national average, we can look at the outliers. Specifically, we’ll now list the states with highest and lowest average vacation rental cleaning costs. The following states are the most expensive:

  1. 1. New Jersey – $82.38
  2. 2. Hawaii – $71.01
  3. 3. Michigan – $69.40

It is common that states with a high cost-of-living have a relatively high cleaning cost. If you reside in one of these states, you may consider adjusting your current offers to remain competitive. Now, let’s see the states with the lowest average vacation rental cleaning costs:

  1. 1. New Mexico – $38.69
  2. 2. Pennsylvania – $41.09
  3. 3. Wisconsin – $41.58

The states with the lower cleaning costs typically have lower cost-of-living. However, other external factors may play a role in bringing these costs to their lower point. Like most things, these costs are subject to changes over time. Let’s explore these changes in the following section.

Historical Average

In the final section of this article, we are going to turn our attention to the Historical Average section at the bottom of the infographic. While the graph holds three lines, we are only going to look at the yellow line, which represents the average cost of cleaning a one-bedroom property. As you can tell, the line remains relatively flat throughout the year. This makes for relatively plain reading, however, it does indicate that Airbnb cleaners and hosts alike can make relatively strong predictions for the trends in costs. The cost of cleaning a one-bedroom property rose in May then fell back down. In September, the cost began to rise and did not stop rising until December, where it reached its peak.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we now have a good understanding for the average vacation rental cleaning costs throughout the United States. In addition to this, we explored the states with the highest and lowest costs. Finally, we took a look at the changes in cleaning costs throughout the fiscal year of 2020. We hope this information will prove valuable to you as you continue on your Airbnb cleaning journey.
